My work functions within a dialogue that converses with the past and present simultaneously. I combine elements of drawing, installation, and performance to maneuver between these two points. These junctures represent the various forms of collecting and archiving from which my practice stems. It is through these processes that the act of finding the hidden layers of meaning, inherent within images and objects of the past, becomes most significant. Of equal interest is the inquiry into my familial history in Los Angeles, especially as it relates to my Mexican-American cultural background. These collective motivations are concerned with historical retrieval and attempting to locate oneself amidst larger forms of cultural erasure. As of late, my work has led me to an interest in fusing certain strains of popular culture with specific historical events, to reinterpret notions of memory, time, and place within the political and social arenas of Post-war American society and what remains of its faded evidentiary residue, today.
